PALM ROLL OR INTERLOCKING
Two Ways to Maintain Locs. They Are Not Interchangeable.
Both close the new growth at the root. They differ in how long the retwist holds, how it wears over time, and how hard it is to reverse. Most clients do best with palm rolling. Active clients, fine hair, or anyone who can't get in every month often do better with interlocking. If you're unsure, book the consultation, it's cheaper than switching methods later.

Book it anyway. Going four or five months between retwists isn't a reason to avoid the salon, it's a reason to come in before locs start joining at the root, which turns a maintenance visit into a separation appointment.

If it's been a while, or your locs are matted, thinning, or breaking at the root, book the consultation first. Thirty minutes and a real plan beats guessing at a service that might not be the right one.

Step 01 — Check the Roots
Thinning, tension spots, breakage, locs starting to marry. What we find changes what we do, a retwist isn't a template.
Step 02 — Shampoo
Clean roots twist cleaner and hold longer. Shampoo is included with every retwist service. Buildup or product residue gets addressed before we start.
Step 03 — Part & Retwist
Parts re-established with clean sections. Roots rolled firm but not tight. Tension at the base is what costs you hair, so the goal is neat and secure, never painful.
Step 04 — Dry & Set
Fully dried before you leave, so the retwist actually holds and nothing sours at the root. Style-only add-ons finished last.

Q2: What is a partial retwist?
A partial retwist covers the perimeter and the parts that show — hairline, edges, and the top — instead of every loc. It's $80 and takes about an hour. Useful between full appointments or before an event, but it isn't a replacement for full maintenance.
Q3: How often should locs be retwisted?
Every four to six weeks for palm rolling and six to ten weeks for interlocking. Slower growth, larger locs, or thicker density can go longer. Retwisting more often than that thins the root over time.
Q4: Is a retwist the same as interlocking?
No. Palm rolling wraps new growth around the outside of the loc and holds four to six weeks. Interlocking pulls the loc through its own root and holds six to ten weeks. Interlocking is much harder to reverse and is best committed to intentionally, not as a one-off experiment.
Q5: Can retwisting thin my roots?
Yes, if it's done too tightly or too often. Traction at the base of the loc causes thinning and breakage, and severe cases don't grow back. A retwist should feel firm, never painful. If your last retwist gave you a headache or visible bumps, that's a red flag.
Q6: Can I book if another stylist did my locs?
Yes. New clients are welcome. If your locs are thinning, matted, or you're not sure what maintenance method was used on them, book the $30 consultation first so we can build a plan.
Q7: What if it's been months since my last retwist?
Still book. Overdue roots take longer and may need separation work, so mention the timeframe when you book — that way enough time is set aside and we don't rush the visit.
Q8: Do you retwist locs for men?
Yes. Retwist and maintenance services are offered for all clients regardless of gender. Same pricing, same technique.
Q9: Should I take my style down before the appointment?
Yes. Arrive with accessories, beads, and set styles removed unless your booking confirmation says otherwise. That way your appointment time goes to the retwist itself.
Q10: Do I need to wash my locs before coming in?
No. A shampoo is included with your service. Skip heavy oils and product the day of your appointment so buildup can be addressed properly.
